2nd Annual BFT attracts 50 schools from Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri.

1957 Little Nationals Bellaire Debate sweeps Muskogee tournament.

1957 National Champions Bellaire won the National Sweepstakes award as top school in the nation at the NFL National tournament in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Cathy Baxter dies in a car accident.  Four weeks before the accident Cathy had been elected NFL President for 1958-59.

3rd Annual BFT was dedicated in memory of Cathy Baxter.

1958 Little Nationals 14 Bellaire debaters won sweepstakes at the Muskogee Little Nationals tournament.

1958 State tournament Judy Bell & Harriet Schaffer won the State Championship in debate and David Berg was State Champion in Original Oratory.

1958 Nationals saw Bellaire win the National Sweepstakes award. Alan Haufrect and Marie Cheatham placed in the tournament.

1959 Little Nationals Bellaire was triumphant in Muskogee again.  Pictured here are several of the students who earned the honors.

Eugene Kleilin wins the National Championship in Boys Extemporaneous speaking at the 1959 National Debate tournament.

Bellaire Girls
lead the way in 1960.

1960 BFT hosts 46 high schools and 6 universities.

Bellaire is one of the first high schools in the country to fly to speech & debate tournaments. 
Eastern Air allowed Bellaire to fly in style.  Where are rates like this today?

Sharon Marshall wins the National Championship in Girls Extemp.  Rostrum further recognized Marshall's accomplishment.

1961 BFT was billed as the world's largest tournament.
